Tom Sparks is an international lawyer and legal scholar. He holds a PhD in international law from Durham University. With interests ranging from international environmental law and self-determination to the law and practice of international courts, Tom is the author of more than twenty scholarly books, articles, and other publications. Tom joined Just Access in January 2024, when he took up the post as Director. Prior to joining Just Access, Tom was a Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law. He has previously served as Judicial Fellow to Judge Peter Tomka at the International Court of Justice in the Hague, and as a Member of the Board of Directors of Amnesty International UK. Tom advises States on matters relating to general international law, international environmental law, and human rights. Outside of his work with Just Access, Tom is a keen runner, walker, and rock climber. He speaks English (mother tongue) and German (conversational).
