We’re hiring: German Lawyer (Volljurist:in) | Just Access e.V.
About Just Access
At Just Access, we use strategic litigation, advocacy, and education to defend economic, social, cultural, and environmental rights for those who need it most. In five years, we’ve grown from a start-up idea into an internationally recognised NGO, submitting interventions to the European Court of Human Rights, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, UN Special Rapporteurs, and beyond.
We’re a small but mighty team of international lawyers based across Europe. And now, we’re looking to bring on a fully qualified German lawyer (Volljurist:in) to strengthen our engagement with German law and institutions.
What we’re looking for:
- Fully qualified German lawyer (Volljurist:in) with First and Second State Examinations (Erstes und Zweites Staatsexamen)
- Strong grounding in German constitutional and administrative law (public law experience preferred)
- Fluency in English and native-level German
- Demonstrated interest in human rights, strategic litigation, and access to justice
- Ability to work independently in a remote, international team
- Strong communication skills and comfort working across legal systems and disciplines
Practical details
- Part-time commitment: ~10 hours/week
- Location: fully remote, or in-person at our Heidelberg office if you prefer
- State date: flexible
What you’ll do
- This is not a traditional domestic law role. You will act as a bridge between German law and our international human rights work, including:
- Advising on how German constitutional, administrative, and procedural law intersects with our cases and advocacy
- Supporting the integration of German legal arguments into international litigation (e.g. before the European Court of Human Rights and UN mechanisms)
- Conducting targeted research on German case law, legislation, and legal frameworks relevant to economic, social, and environmental rights
- Helping us assess strategic litigation opportunities in Germany
- Advising on engagement with German courts, authorities, and institutions
- Collaborating with our international team to translate complex domestic legal issues into comparative and human rights frameworks
Why this role matters
Our work increasingly intersects with German domestic law and policy. We need someone who can help us navigate the German legal landscape and connect it meaningfully to international human rights standards.
